STRONGS NT 2996: Λασαία

Λασαία, Λασαιας, ἡ (Lachmann Ἀλασσα, Tr WH Λασεα (see WHs Appendix, p. 160), Vulg.Thalassa), Lasaea, Acts 27:8, a city of Crete not mentioned by any ancient geographical or other writer. But this need not excite surprise, since probably it was one of the smaller and less important among the ninety or a hundred cities of the island; cf. Kuinoel at the passage (Its site was discovered in 1856, some five miles to the E. of Fair Havens and close to Cape Leonda; see Smith, Voyage and Shipwr. of St. Paul (3rd edition, p. 259f) 4th edition, p. 262f; Alford, Greek Testament, vol. ii, Proleg., p. 27f.)
